Q. Are video tapes permissible during labor and delivery?
A. Using a camera or videotape is permissible under the following circumstances:

  • Recordings of any kind (photos, video, audio) are restricted to patients' own rooms and may only be conducted for private use.
  • Videotaping during births is at the discretion of the physician and the patient.
  • During a C-section, the video taping may only be done from the head of the patient's bed.
  • All caregivers need to give consent before they are included in the videotaping.
  • Your physician must be aware of your intentions to videotape and must give approval. Please discuss this with him/her during your pregnancy.
  • You may not have medical procedures videotaped and you must stop videotaping at any time when asked to by any staff member.
  • There is a "Patient Video Consent sheet" to sign on admission to the hospital, or in your physician's office, if you wish to videotape.
  • For safety reasons, a tripod may not be used in the LDR room.

Q. If I am in false labor, can I stay until my baby is ready to be delivered?
A. Your doctor or attending physician will determine if you need to be hospitalized. If hospitalization is not required, you will be free to return home.

Q. If I have stitches, will they need to be removed before I go home?
A. Surgical staples after a cesarean section are typically removed before the patient goes home. Other surgeries and procedures are on a case-by-case basis, so please discuss with your physician prior to surgery.
